At The Wildheart Foundation we pledge:
To look at each child as an individual as we celebrate their strengths and support them in the areas that challenge them.
To view each new day as a fresh start.
To support children by teaching self advocacy skills and in helping them find accommodations that work for them and that respect their autonomy.
To acknowledge that every child will grow and learn in their own time, in their own way with my patience, guidance and nurturing.
To ensure that all my interactions with the children I work with will be based on mutual respect.
To embrace the neurodiversity paradigm and celebrate each child as a valuable part of the wide and diverse spectrum of humanity.
To always presume competence in every child that I work with and have high expectations.
To understand that communication is more than speech and value all communication in its many forms.
To acknowledge we will likely make mistakes along the way because we are not perfect. We will remember that working with autistic or other neurodivergent children means supporting them, accepting them, and valuing them for the unique and wonderful people they are.
To be just and fair.
To be reflective when things go wrong and to understand that all interactions are the responsibility of everyone involved and the responsibility for reflection and repair applies equally, if not more so, with me as the adult.
